A security audit of TrueCrypt has determined that the disk
encryption software does not contain any backdoors that could be
used by the NSA or other surveillance agencies.

I would call that good news.

I would call that "better than anything else that has not had
a public audit".
If Microsht would be willing to release the Bitlocker source
code, maybe that will pass an audit too. But probably not.

"Starting with Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 Microsoft removed the
Elephant Diffuser from the BitLocker scheme for no declared reason.
Dan Rosendorf's research shows that removing the Elephant Diffuser had
an "undeniably negative impact" on the security of BitLocker
encryption against a targeted attack."

(from the Wiki, whatever the "Elephant" does)

Elephants are protected now because liberals keep killing them.

So don't use Bitlocker.

Rather depends on the version.
